I am extremely passionate about this cheesecake as it is quite possibly the thing I do best in life. And I have no shame in admitting that me and the boyf have demolished a whole one in a day!
Ladies and gents I present to you DUH DUH DUH DUUUUUUUUUUUUUHH….
…THE OREO CHEESECAKE!!!
(woooo, yeah, omagaaaad!)
You Will Need
5 packs of Oreos/Oreo-like biscuits
(I usually use Asdas own because they taste just the same and are way cheaper however, because of the craziness that’s going on in the supermarkets at the moment I had to get actual Oreos)
(Also you probs only need 4 packs, but I usually get through a pack while making it - you’re welcome in advance.)
500g Cream Cheese
200ml Double or Whipping Cream
100g Icing Sugar
60g Butter
Spoon
Medium Sized Bowl
Electric Whisk or Regular Whisk
Sieve
Baking Parchment
Spring Form Tin
And that’s it!
LET’S DO THIS!!
Method
First we’re going to make the base. Now, if you have a fancy-schmancy food processor, you’re winning! Lob in 2 packs of Oreos (approx 24), whizz them about until they have a crumb-like texture and bing-bang-boom! You’re done!
If, like me, you are sans-food processor then this is where I would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the Hawkward Anger Management Exercise. And I can assure you, not only will you get one hell of an arm workout, but after you will feel so stress-free it’ll be like you spent the weekend at a spa.
All you need to do is get a medium sized bowl, chuck 2 packs of Oreos in, grab your nearest rolling pin and GO. TO. TOWN!! Smash, smash, smash, smaaaaaaaaaash until your Oreos have a crumb-like texture.
If your arms need at rest during this process take that time to line the bottom of your tin with baking parchment.
Once you’ve finished crushing the Oreos, melt the butter in the microwave, then add to the Oreo crumbs, stirring to make sure that all the crumbs have been coated in butter.
Then you’re going to transfer the base mix into the tin. Throw the mix in, evenly spread it out and press it down with the back of a spoon.
You want to press it down quite firmly, but not too much because it then becomes really difficult to cut through once it’s set. Kind of like when you’re prodding your bf/gf/partner/pet for attention. Just enough pressure that it’s annoying them, but not enough to cause a bruise.
You get me?
Basically, until it looks a little something like this.
Then bob it in the fridge to set.
Now we’re moving onto our dreamy, creamy cheesecake filling. First put your cream in a bowl and whip until you can whip no more. Well, actually until it thickens and forms stiff peaks.
Haven’t got an electric whisk? I’m not going to lie, you’ve got a tough road ahead, but it’s absolutely doable! Just power through and think of the creamy Oreo deliciousness you’ll have achieved at the end. And when you’re done: take a 20 mins break, put your feet up, whack on a Gavin and Stacey episode and make your way through your spare pack of Oreos. You bloody deserve it!!
Once the cream is whipped, add the cream cheese and sieve the icing into the bowl. Gently fold into the cream.
Next you’re going to break up another pack (approx 12) of Oreos to mix into the cheesecake filling. This is completely down to preference how you want to do it. You can use a knife to chop them up into little pieces. Or if like me, you’re not fussed, then just use your hands to break them up and your beautiful cheesecake will be filled with big bits, small bits, tiny little crumby bits, all sorts of shapes and sizes. We don’t discriminate our Oreos here!
Add your broken bits of Oreo into the cheesecake mix and give it a good stir.
Take the base out of the fridge and evenly spread the cheesecake mixture onto it. Then pop your beautiful creation back in the fridge to set. I usually leave it overnight, or I’ll make early morning to have in the evening. The minimum I’d give it is 4—6 hours but honestly, just leave it as long as you can.
I would also leave it a good hour until you put your decorative Oreos on top. Crumble them on top, put them on whole, do what you want, this is your time to get creative.
Once the cheesecake is set, take it out the fridge, pop it out on the tin and enjoy!! I normally put it back in the tin if it’s going back in the fridge
And there you have it. Honestly it is so easy and delicious, I try to find excuses to make it.
Oreo Maths
I feel like there’s a lot of Oreos flying about about it might get a bit confusing about how many to use where.
So here’s a little breakdown, guessing that a pack is approx 12 Oreos.
2 packs - Base of the cheesecake
1 Pack - Crumble in the cheesecake filling
1 - Decorate on top
1 pack - To enjoy while making (optional)
Ooooh also, if you have any cheesecake filling left, put it in a bowl, let it set in the fridge and you’ve got an incredible Oreo cheesecake dip to enjoy with your spare pick of Oreos (if there’s any left). Trust me!! It’s insane. Sometimes if I’m feeling super lazy, I’ll just make the dip.
Most of the time when I make this cheesecake, I actually make a lacto-free version (so the boyf can eat it too). All I do is replace the cream cheese and cream with Arla’s lacto-free version. It tastes just as delicious, the only thing you have to watch out for is that it won’t set as well. So you either need to leave it to set for longer or, like we do, eat it straight from the tin.
Thank you so much for giving this a read, and if you do have a go at making it please please pleeeease share them with me, I’d love to see your creations!
And as always if you could like/comment/share blah blah blah, you know the jam. Let’s spread this cheesecake love!
Happy baking!!
