We’re in a bit of a weird place right now, aren’t we? I hope everyone is doing okay and staying at home if you can. The biggest thank you to all the key workers who are getting us all through this time. We’ll never be able to thank you enough for your sacrifice and hard work.
It’s only been a few days and I’m going insane. Everyone’s a little tense and on edge and you can’t help but feel a bit worried when you see the supermarket shelves so empty. So when I saw this recipe I thought, “Ooooh! Something really easy, extremely versatile, with two simple ingredients. How perfect for what’s going on right now”.
Okay, okay, okay. So… I CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS THIS BEFORE! As you can tell, I’m a smidge excited about this one. When I saw it pop up on my timeline; my first thought was, “Naaaaah, there’s no way that this will work and if it does work, it’ll probably taste awful”.
How wrong I was.
This dough is made from two ingredients. Two. Dos, deux, due, bloody TWO!! It is so versatile and actually tastes good.
So let’s get to it. Here is our two ingredient dough…
You Will Need
- 220g Self Raising Flour (add some more for dusting)
- 245g Greek Yogurt
AND. THAT. IS. IT.
I still can’t get over it. My mind is blown.
Right, let’s get on with it. This is where the fun starts.
Method
- Preheat your oven to 200ºC
- Whack the flour and the yogurt in a bowl and mix until it comes together. I started off using a spoon but quickly became very impatient, so I just used my hands until it all came together to form a ball.
AND THAT’S IT!! YOU’VE MADE YOUR DOUGH. BOOM! FINITO. IN MEMORIAM. THE END!
(If you get that reference then we are soulmates and I love you.)
And then it’s totally up to you. You can make whatever you want: pizza bases, bread rolls, flat breads, naan breads, pittas, bagels, doughnuts, dough balls… googles “things you can make with dough”… pretzels, breadsticks, garlic breads, calzones, pizza bites, cinnamon rolls, the list goes on and oooooon.
Obviously, when things have gone back to normal you can be a bit more creative with ingredients/toppings/seasonings. So these will all have a ‘let’s see what’s left in the cupboards and throw it all together’ kind of vibe. But hey, that was the whole point of this post.
So, I’m going to try a few things out and take you on the journey with me.
Here we go…
Pizza
Yup, you can make a pizza with this dough.
- All the recipes online say do a light dusting with flour on the surface. But for me the dough kept sticking to the table. So I’d say do a bit of a generous dusting of flour on your surface. Just see what works best for you.
- Place your dough on the surface then using your hands, flatten out and shape the dough. If it gets sticky at any point, sprinkle over a bit of flour (ngl, I had to do this quite a bit). I’d also keep flipping it over as you flatten it out, just to lessen the chances of it sticking to the surface.
- Once you’re happy with the shape, place it on a lightly floured baking tray.
- Spread the sauce evenly over the dough - to make this I had to mix tomato puree and a smidge of passata together. Sprinkle the cheese, season if you have anything and top with whatever you can find in your fridge or cupboard.
- Bake in the oven for 20 mins or until the cheese has melted and the crust has turned a golden brown.
- En-bloody-joy!!
**A bit of a side note. When taking pictures for this post I tried out four different things with one batch of dough, so I actually made a mini pizza. One batch of dough will be enough to make one regular sized pizza or you can split your dough up into 4 to make 4 mini pizzas. If you’re feeling really wild, you could split the dough into 8 and make 8 pizza bites! Okay, this is all getting a bit exciting, I think I need to sit down…**
Bagel
- Place your dough on a floured surface and using a knife (or if you’re some sort of a dough connoisseur you can use one of those bread cutter things. Just googled; it’s called a bench scraper) split the dough into 4 equal pieces.
- Grab one piece and roll it into a ball. Again; if it starts to get sticky, sprinkle it with a bit of flour.
- Use your thumb to create the hole in the middle. Very gently stretch it out to make the hole a bit bigger.
- Repeat with the other 3 pieces of dough.
- Place the bagels on a lightly floured baking tray and brush with either an egg wash or oil. I ended up using rapeseed oil because it’s all I had in. Season on both sides.
- Bake in the oven for 20 mins
- Tadaaa! You’ve made bagels. I was genuinely shocked at how bagel-y it was. And it tasted great.
Flatbread
- Place your dough on a floured surface and using a knife, split the dough into 4 equal pieces.
- Take one piece and like with the pizza, flatten out and shape the dough with your hands. Keep flipping it over as you flatten it out and sprinkle over a bit of flour if it gets sticky.
- Once you’ve reached your desired shape, place on a lightly floured baking tray.
- Brush both sides of the flatbread with either an egg wash or oil and season.
- Repeat with the other 3 pieces of dough.
- Bake in the oven for 20 mins
- Viola! Hey presto! You’ve got yourself some flatbreads.
Pretzel
- Place your dough on a floured surface and using a knife, split the dough into 8 equal pieces.
- Take a piece at a time and roll each out into a sausage shape until it’s roughly 30/35cm long.
- Place on baking tray and shape into a pretzel, (this took me an embarrassingly long time to work out, hopefully the pictures will help).
- Brush both sides of the pretzels with either an egg wash or oil and season. (I made one salted pretzel and one sugar and cinnamon pretzel. They were both delicious).
- Bake in the oven for 20 mins
- Baddabing baddaboom, it’s pretzel time!
Are they neat? Nope. Are they precise? Nah. Are they the same size? No way Jose. Does that matter? Absolutely not!
And there you have it, 4 different things you can make with your two ingredients dough. And that’s just scratching the surface, there are so many different things you can make. I was so apprehensive before I tried this out, and I’m still shocked at how nice they all taste.
As usual; please like, comment, share and subscribe. And if you do have a go at making something, please share your creations. People need to know about this dough!!
Just to finish off I wanted to say that I’m sending so much love out to you all. Look out for each other, check in with people, do what you can to stay sane. Also try to understand that if your loved ones are being a bit aggy, (as I am - Mum/Dad/Danny sorry I’m being a nightmare. I love you all,) remember it’s nothing personal. We’re all just going through a bit of cabin fever at the mo. If you’re using this lockdown to be incredibly productive; to exercise, get work done, learn a new skill, sort/organise, then that’s amazing!!
If (like me) you’re using this lockdown to watch the entirety of Netflix, eat 7 meals a day, feel a bit lost, feel a bit down, feel a lot unmotivated, start a new 4pm wine-time club with your dad, that’s also amazing. Everyone’s different and everyone’s dealing with this new and bizarre situation the best way they can. You do you and if you need anything, I’ll be right here, (cos where else can I go?)
Love to you all.
Stay Safe.
